Welcome to MenHaveRights, deviantART's first (as far as I can tell) group dedicated to the Men's Rights Movement.
What is your movement about?
In just one word: Equality. We fight for equal legal, political, and cultural rights between men and women.
Aren't the feminists fighting for the same thing?
They claim they are, but many of their actions suggest otherwise. They have lobbied for law after law designed to punish men for some supposed grievance or another. Not only have these laws--especially the Violence Against Women Act--hurt men, they've worsened the problems that they were created to solve. Instead of working to encourage women to be stronger, many feminists have been pushing constantly for ever more government expansion and programs to do everything for them. They want Uncle Sam to be their Sugar Daddy.
But don't men already have a lot of power, seeing as how they control pretty much every government in the world?
The governments of the world may be controlled by men, but the average man has no political power beyond his ability to vote. Also, just because a government is being run by men doesn't necessarily mean it is being run for men.
Aren't you just trying to get back all the male privileges you lost to feminism?
If the rights to be treated like a human being, be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, not sign our bodies over to the government, talk to women at work without the fear of losing our jobs, or keep our own children when we haven't done anything wrong are 'male privileges', then yes, I guess we are.
What about the pay gap?
The pay gap disappears when you adjust for factors such as seniority, GPA, hours worked per week, exposure to elements, exposure to job dangers, and willingness to work on holidays. There are many others, but they are too many to list here.
Aren't you just a bunch of misogynistic, racist right-wing Christian homophobes?
We are not misogynists, racists, or homophobes, and we come from all different political stripes. Our founder is indeed a Christian, but he is a left-leaning libertarian. The only things that we all have in common are that we are pro-equality and anti-misandry. We are open to members of any religious background, as well as agnostics and atheists. Also, we allow women who support our cause to join. Yes, that even includes lesbians.
Any other questions? Feel free to ask.
NOTE TO FEMINISTS: We are not like you. We encourage free and open debate, and we will not throw hissy fits or have panic attacks when somebody dares to challenge one of our ideas. If you want to argue with us, go ahead; it's your loss, really. We will not hide your comments or block you, except under the following circumstances:
1) Making personal attacks on any member of this group.
2) Consistently and deliberately misinterpreting what we say.
3) Revealing personal information of any member of this group that we ourselves have not revealed.
We know 1 and 2 are quite difficult for you to abide by, but we're sorry: them's the rules. Oh, and while we can't prevent you from doing so, we will say that taking screencaps of the debates you have with us and posting them on your personal websites (such as tumblr) to share with nothing but like-minded people is the height of immaturity. You will be endlessly ridiculed for doing so. Remember: You reap what you sow.
